2017 Cocktail Conversation Series

Join us for evenings of cocktails, networking, and conversation! We'll be continuing the question posed at Inclucity, of 'what will it take?' to create a fully inclusive Puget Sound community. Not able to attend every event? Not to worry! While the conversations will build as we go, we hope that new voices and faces will join us throughout the series.
Tuesday, February 7th - What Will it Take?
Cambia Grove, Seattle
6:00pm - 8:00 pm
In our first conversation, we'll explore the concept of 'what will it take?' to create a truly inclusive Puget Sound. We'll discuss our role as members of the community who are already engaged in this movement. Together, we'll examine what barriers need to be removed, what attitudes changed or have the opportunity to change, and what actions need to be taken to create an inclusive community.
Thursday, April 6th - Why Does it Matter?
Cambia Grove, Seattle
6:00pm - 8:00 pm
In this conversation, our group will explore existing beliefs and biases held by those outside of the disability sector. We'll explore ideas of how we can engage the broader community into this conversation. Together, we'll examine why those who don't know a person with a disability should sit up, pay attention, and join the movement.
Tuesday, June 20th - 'Speechless' Watch & Discuss
Cambia Grove, Seattle
6:00pm - 8:00 pm
"Maya DiMeo is a mom on a mission who will do anything for her husband Jimmy, her kids Ray, Dylan, and JJ-her eldest son with cerebral palsy. As Maya fights injustices both real and imagined, the family works to make a new home for themselves, and searches for just the right person to give JJ his 'voice.'" More information can be found at the following link, (http://abc.go.com/shows/speechless). Join us over cocktails to watch and discuss ABC's new sitcom, Speechless. We'll discuss whether or not it is an accurate representation, and explore how the show is resonating with a larger community.
Tuesday, August 8th - Moving Forward: What's Next?
Cambia Grove, Seattle
6:00pm - 8:00 pm
In this final conversation, we'll combine feedback from Inclucity and our other cocktail series events to take a look at how we can turn thoughts and ideas into action. Together, we'll make a plan to spark system-wide change toward creating an inclusive Puget Sound community. Register here.
TBD - 'Becoming Bulletproof' Movie Screening
Becoming Bulletproof documents the making of an original Western film, Bulletproof, featuring actors with and without disabilities who meet every year at Zeno Mountain Farm (ZMF) to write, produce, and star in original short films. Founded by two brothers and their wives, Zeno Mountain Farm's philosophy is to create a truly inclusive community that builds genuine friendships that transcend stigma and stereotypes. As one of the actors says, 'I do not want pity because I have a disability, I just want to be understood. I want disability to have a seat at the table in pop culture,'" (http://www.becomingbulletproofmovie.com/info). Get your popcorn and join us for a night of less conversation (but still cocktails!) as we view the hit documentary, Becoming Bulletproof. More details to come.
